Eat My Shorts Festival Summer 2010

So the first Eat My Shorts festival was a great success! We were thrilled to have a full house and a few more squeezed in around the edges and, judging by the feedback, people seem to have really enjoyed the eleven short films. It was amazing the variation in people's opinions on their favourites and not so favourites and I think a lively discussion on that subject was the sign of a good screening!

We'd like to thank everyone who came to show their support to Eat My Shorts and the film makers, Exchange Dublin, Rory Kirby, Robert Loughnane, Aisling Walsh, Flava Dave, Brian Herron, Brian O' Riordan & Michael Grennell for all their help and support and most of all, the incredibly talented film makers.

The next Eat My Shorts festival will take place in Winter 2010 and we will be sending out a call for submissions October-ish. Keep an eye out here for updates and email us on eatmyshortsfestival.com to be put on the mailing list. We're also hoping to put on a two-day festival next Summer so if you have any ideas or projects that you think would work as a collaboration, drop us a line.

"Making a great short film scheme is a springboard to a career in feature films, documentaries and television drama. However, most entries for short film schemes contain a good idea in a sketchy draft. This course will give the creative team behind the idea the skills to hone a screenplay.

There will be expert guidance in crafting short films to the standard sought by Bord Scannán/Irish Film Board and other funders. The course is designed to improve participants’ chances of being selected for any short film scheme and then making the best film possible. Participants will be shown how to develop an idea from conception to production-ready script, while avoiding the most common pitfalls. "

Eat My Shorts would like to thank all the film makers who submitted their films to the festival and to congratulate *deep breath* TJ O'Grady Peyton, Dean Kavanagh, Tim Hanan, Jordan Ballantine, Ged Murray, Cara Holmes, Robert Browning, Clodagh Downing, Niall Staines & Daniel Cross, Remond Fitzpatrick & Luke Leslie for being accepted for screening at Eat My Shorts!

All the films submitted were full of amazing innovation and imagination and we chose 11 films that we feel work really well together. We've seen the films loads of times at this stage but still can't help ooh-ing and ahh-ing everytime we watch them!

In other news, we've managed to get Flava Dave and Nick Lynar to DJ at the event and according to Nick they've got some 'quality tunes' lined up!

EAT MY SHORTS is Ireland’s newest film event, providing a platform for new, innovative and exciting short films.

From documentaries tackling the big issues, to knee-slappingly hilarious comedies, to dark and twisted dramas, EAT MY SHORTS will deliver an evening choc-full of captivating cinema.

On the 11th of june 2010, a new type of event will take place for the first time in Dublin. Ten of the best short films made in the past year will be shown on a big, shiny screen in the creative hub of old city Templebar, Exchange Dublin.

A big objective of the event was to make everything free so it's totally accessible and totally inclusive. There was no fee for submissions and there will be no admission fee on the night.

If you have an interest in film making or if you simply want a raucous night of popcorn, fizzy orange and fun then get yourself down to Exchange Dublin, Essex St., Templebar on Friday 11th June 2010 at 7.30. Again, admission is free, free, free and there'll be entry to one of the big clubs in the city to contemplate our creativity on a nice quiet dance-floor.
